Chinese Firms Enhance Offshore Wind Power Capabilities
Published · 3 min read

Last Saturday, more than 30 Chinese companies came together to sign important agreements. These deals are about improving how they work together on offshore wind power. This means they want to help each other from the start of making something to the end. They believe that working together can lead to better ways to make wind power more useful and cost-effective.
Pushing Forward with Technological Innovations
Zhang Zhian, who works for a company that makes cables used under the sea, talked about how they are trying to make things better. As they start to work in deeper waters, they see the need to make things that cost less and use less energy. He said, “We are joining hands with companies that make chemicals and universities that help us create top-notch gear for very deep water. We focus on making parts that help turn power from alternating current to direct current far away in the ocean.”
Also, Zhu Chengjun, who leads the Three Gorges Renewables (Group) Co., Ltd., pointed out the progress in their wind power projects. “We are doing big research projects with other companies to solve tough problems. These include how to send power over long distances under the sea and how to control this system,” he added.
Support from the Government and Growth of the Industry
The Chinese government plays a big role in this industry. Zhuang Shuxin, who is an important official, mentioned how the government supports these efforts. “We push companies to come up with big new ideas that can change the game. We want them to make the whole industry better, from making wind turbines to keeping them running,” he explained.
- 74 small but powerful companies are leading the way in making parts like cables and turbines.
- These companies are helping make China a world leader in wind power.
China’s Leadership in Global Offshore Wind Power
China is now the top country in the world for wind power connected to the grid. They have installed 39.1 million kilowatts of power, which is half of the power for the whole world. Back in 2018, they had less than 5 million kilowatts.
A recent meeting in Beihai, Guangxi, brought experts together to talk about new ideas. They discussed how to mix different ways of working to make the industry even stronger. Shu Yinbiao, an expert at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said, “We need to keep finding new ways to be better than other countries in making wind power.”
Future Directions
The efforts to work together and support from the government are making China stay ahead in making wind power. This is good for the whole world because it helps us take care of our planet. It also puts China in the lead for coming up with new ways to use wind energy.
Table of Facts: China’s Wind Power Industry
| Year | Installed Capacity (in million kilowatts) | Global Share |
| 2018 | 5 | Less than 10% |
| 2023 | 37.7 | 50% |
| 2024 | 39.1 | 50% |
This table shows how fast China’s wind power has grown. It also shows how big a part they play in the world’s wind power.
